Born and bred on the Southwest Side of Chicago, Michael studied for
the priesthood at Quigley South and Niles College before receiving his diploma from Loyola
University of Chicago in fine art. Opting for an art career rather than the ministry, he
worked as a freelance artist for many years before discovering the Book of Kells and
realizing the possibility of reviving the art of the Celtic monks.
Michael is happily married, and lives and works from his home studio
outside Chicago. He is also a musician in his spare time, playing blues piano and
harmonica, as well as experimenting with other odd assorted instruments such as
folk harp, psaltery and cedar flute. And if not in the vicinity of his drawing
table Michael can usually be found at the nearest pond, fishing for bass and a little
peace and quiet.
